Senior Citizens Tauranga Trip 2009 |
Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust – Senior Citizens enjoy a weekend out in Sun and Surf at Bay of Plenty:
Bhartiya Samaj organized an outing for Senior Citizens aged 65 and above. Two Luxury Bus Loads of elders ventured out in the Sun to enjoy the bright and lovely two days in Bay of Plenty. Starting on 28th November 09, the seniors were picked up from their residences at 7.30 am, all gathered at Bhartiya Samaj Hall, May Road and ventured out in the hired Luxury buses. Singing, enjoying, telling jokes to each other they cruised and halted for Breakfast at Paroera, and thereafter reached Waihi Beach.
The temptation of the 9 km stretch of the lovely beach, its sparkling clean water, pristine surf and the serene environment was thrilling. Most of the seniors could not resist wetting their feet in water and they did that at their heart’s content. Grand Mums collecting shells for their grand children at home, taking long walks, the fun and delight all around was worth witnessing. From here they all traveled to Tauranga, checked in their rooms at the beautiful Armitage Hotel. Volunteers had prepared lunch for them, they enjoyed the lunch, rested a while and were all charged up to go to Mt: Manganui by 4 pm
Mt Manganui was another lovely experience. The Hill was a challenge to climb so instead of seniors decided to walk around the base. The chatter was mesmerizing, coffee was very delicious and some could not resist the temptation of Ice Cream coupled with shopping.
For dinner, a community hall was booked through Mr. Munir Khan, President of Tauranga Bengali Association and a friend. The seniors enjoyed a feast of Vegetarian & Non Vegetarian Dinner as well as drinks were served by the Caterer. After lots pf Music & Dancing we left for Hotel by 10.30 pm. It was like a festival, where seniors let loose themselves.
It was time for much deserved night sleep, Armitage had all the comforts and seniors rested well. They were charged thus next day for more. Morning was spent at Orchids. Mr.Munirkhan and Mr.Abdul explained to the senior’s different fruit crops they grew, and how the KIWI the fruit yield and timely pruning, picking and packaging maintained quality. The talks for about 2 hours were very interesting.
It was time to go to Gurdwara Saheb. The Bus took them all to Tauranga Gurdwara Sahab, prayers were offered, Ardas was done and a well-prepared langar was enjoyed by all. Seniors and Bhartiya Samaj is grateful to the management of the Gurdwara Saheb for the lovely, divine and culinary treats.
On way back was the inevitable stop at Hamilton Gardens. Flowers at full bloom, especially at Indian Garden, was very scenic, great to view and provided a great photo opportunity.
The seniors on return to Auckland were full of praise for the trip. They thanked profusely, the Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, for having done every thing possible to make their trip unforgettable a most Exhilarating.
