









Keeping true to its objective of providing a melting point for Indian community to express and fulfill their social, cultural and national needs Bhartiya Samaj has in the recent past organized a variety of activities. Some key activities organized so far include:
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
It was a pleasure to watch the younger generation steal the show with color and attribute that each of them possessed. Even the downpour in the early hours of the morning did not deter the participation or enthusiasm. The flag hoisting by the Hon. Judge Ajit Swaran Singh was followed by the National Anthem which brought tears in the young and the old were evidently enthused.
Cultural programs, art, music and dance performances one after the other kept the audience involved and they sat rooted to their seats, as the performances were beyond their imagination.
The show was highly appreciated by all the dignitaries like Phil Goff, NZ Defence Minister, Hon. Winston Peters, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chris Carter, Minister of Ethnic and Education and Dr. Ashraf Choudhary, Member of Parliament and each of them urged for betterment in every sphere.
COLOURFUL HOLI ON LONG BAY BEACH
Bhartiya Samaj organised Holi(Festival of colours) a colourful event on picturesque Long Bay beach. More than two hundred members along with their families had participated, played and enjoyed the holi celebrations. The event was savoured with colourful sweets and snacks and of course Indian music.
SENIOR CITIZEN'S OVERNIGHT TRIP TO ROTORUA
This year senior citizens had a gala overnight tour to Rotorua while exploring parts of New Zealand. Convenience, Comfort and Safety of eighty people were ensured by hiring Double Decker bus. The success of the trip was evident from the unbeatable jovial mood of all the Senior Citizens throughout the tour. Reactions such as 'we should have more time together’ and ‘tour ended very quickly' were the order of the day.
MOVIE DAY FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
Bhartiya Samaj organised the screening of the Hindi movie 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' , at Capitol Cinema. It was totally free of cost for our senior citizens. Snacks and juice were also served during the Interval. As always the senior citizens were transported back safely to their homes by volunteers of Bhartiya Samaj.
CHILDREN & YOUTH SUMMER CAMP AT MT. ROSKILL WAR MEMORIAL HALL
Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust’s attempt of organizing summer camp turned out to be a great success. Children experienced one of the most exciting Summer Camp for 5 days. Nearly 100 children attended the camp and these 5 days were ethched in the memory of each child. Organisations like Chinmaya Mission, Arts of living, Hindu Hindu Swyam Sevak Sangh contributed to the camp, in addition to the cultural activities dance, play, art & craft, entertainment, movies and amusement activities planned by Bartiya Samaj, making it a fun-filled Summer Camp. A significant number of senior group members played an important roll in caring for the children and cooking delicious meals for everyone during the camp.
SENIOR CITIZENS DAY TRIP TO HAMILTON
A full day’s trip to Hamilton was organized for the senior citizens on 3rd May 2008. As usual the attendance was overwhelming with a 100+ members and guests turning up for the trip. The trip included visits to Hamilton Gurudwara, Hamilton Garden and a fun filled social evening with members of the Waikato Indian Association.
India Independence Day, Republic day of India, Diwali, Christmas Day, Eid were also celebrated with great enthusiasm.
